Les Chavonnes Lake nestled in the midst of pine trees at 1,700 metres will be the perfect stopping point during this walk. Perfect for swimming and fishing in the summer.
You get to the start of this walk by taking the cogwheel train from Villars to the terminus at Bretaye. The views of the Vaud Alps and Mont Blanc on the way and when you get there will delight anyone who loves alpine scenery. You then walk through Bretaye, passing near the lake of the same name; take a walk around it if you like. The rest of the walk takes you towards Lac Noir which you leave on your right, then down a wide track back to Les Chavonnes Lake.
After admiring the different colours of this alpine lake, you follow the small path between the lake and restaurant, where you get a completely different view of this body of water. Continue up towards Perche. At the crossroads, head for Conche, passing by the chair lift which connects the Villars and Les Diablerets ski areas in winter. Walk back down towards Lac Noir back to the start point at Bretaye. More energetic walkers can return to Villars on foot. Otherwise, take the train back to Villars.
