The Bex&Arts 2020 sculpture triennial brings together sculptors from across Switzerland and the world around a main theme : industry.
After a first private exhibition held in 1979, the Bex Triennial was created in 1981. It has since established itself as an important artistic institution among the many open-air sculpture shows presented in Switzerland.
The triennial offers Swiss artists and those working in Switzerland an opportunity to show their works in a historical setting: the Parc of the former Szilassy estate, an English landscape garden created high above the town of Bex and the Rhone valley in 1835 and left to the Canton of Vaud in 1969.
The Szilassy Park covers an area of 7.4 hectares. Its paths lead to a series of sculptures and installations, carefully selected vantage points inviting you to contemplate the natural surroundings.
The 2020 theme is linked to the town of Bex as a historical place of salt exploitation, from modern times to the present day, as a producer of wine and gypsum. It also encourages us to go beyond regional boundaries: the upheaval of industrial practices due to the digital revolution and the ecological urgency lead to a global reflection. "Industria" is a polysemous term characterizing since the 18th century "the ability to produce".
